in connecticut. since then, we have been looking at gun sales here in maryland. barry simms has an update auras. >> we have checked with maryland state police on the processing of gone applications and it appears those numbers are on the rise. the bushmaster rival adam lanza used in the newtown killings was legally owned and registered to his mother, nancy lanza. she was also a victim of her son from a murderous rampage. police say he shot her four times in the head before going to sandy hook elementary and shooting 20 schoolchildren and six female educators. gun sales are on the increase. according to maryland state police, and in november there were more than 7200 gun purchase applications filed. >> we are projecting over 8200 purchase applications for december to be processed. >> more than 46,000 applications were processed and at the end of 2012, state police project at least 62,000 will be handled. troopers will not speculate on why, but some reasons are apparent. the holiday season, high-profile crimes, and lawmakers who advocate measures to change on lot. >> i think when peo

. several inches of snow around boston already. they will pick up close to a foot in connecticut, massachusetts, in the higher terrain. the storm exploded when it got past baltimore. we got clipped by it as it was developing offshore. precipitation was held off several hours for us. that kept the amounts down significantly. we did not start the snow until 10:00 in the area when we expected it to come in at 4:00. that cut back on the totals. the skies are clearing. the wind is picking up. it will be a breezy night. the breeze will stay with us through tomorrow. 23-mile gusts in frederick. the wind will pick up overnight. as the temperatures drop into the 20's, the wind chill will probably be in the lower end of the 20's later tonight. it is 34 in parkton. will drop below freezing. some of that will freeze over. let's take a look of the futurecast. we will take into new year's eve. starting tomorrow, nothing going on. lots of sunshine. it will be breezy and chilly with lots of sunshine on sunday. on monday, you can see the clouds getting thicker. there will be a weak system passing

mary our queen. he spoke on the meaning of christmas and the tragedy in connecticut. >> my heart was cells of the folks -- is with all of the folks, asking the lord to give them consolation and healing. certainly to let them know our solidarity with them in prayer. they have been inundated with so many things, phone calls, but what they and really need are our prayers'. >> he spent 11 years as bishop of bridgeport, conn. for jews, christmas is a day of volunteering. more than 600 took place. families prepared winter care packages for homeless shelters. they include scarfs and hats made by members of the community. organizers say it was important for the children. >> i have the two daughters. it is wonderful to get them involved in volunteering. i want them to understand the holidays are about 10 back. >> more than 1000 were made. holiday dinners were also served around town. today is the eighth year for this event. authorities have recovered human remains from a house in webster, n.y., to the suspected shooter shared with his sister. she had been missing since yesterday. official
